Rocket League Guide: Best settings - Complete Rocket League Optimization Guide (PC)

Here's a guide on how to maximize your frame in Rocket League so you can prove to your solo queue teammates that you're just better and they're wrong about everything.

This guide will be divided into 3 different categories:

Lightweight optimization  - Minimal tweaks, fits modern systems

Moderate optimization  - slightly more intense optimization, suitable for older systems

Heavily Optimized  - Strongly optimized for fairly outdated/non-gaming systems

Note that setting the "Rendering Detail" preset to Performance (Settings > Video > Rendering Detail) will show the highest FPS the system will eventually be able to achieve; this guide is more about finding a good balance of smooth + stable frames and keeping Rocket League "Looks good way.

NOTE: About reducing render quality and display resolution

Though you will see a noticable increase in FPS when lowering these, I recommend keeping the display res to your display's native resolution, and keeping render quality to the highest. This is because you loose a significant amount of clarity when lowering these, and I personally think it's better to just lower other settings instead.

Also, be sure to set the display more to fullscreen, not borderless or windowed. From personal testing fullscreen gives the most performance. Though if you use multiple monitors, I can see the appeal of borderless. I recommend you test both and see what works for you.

Lightweight Optimization

Firstly, you'll want to disable depth of field. This is the biggest win/win, since you gain visual clarity (as Rocket Leagues DOF system is not the best and tends to smudge edges of the ball and your car) as well as more performance since your GPU won't need to render all that blur in the background.

Next, try turning off anti-aliasing. This smooths out pixelated lines but comes with a performance hit. I like to leave this on though, as some maps like Beckwith park can become really distracting with its thin lines on the top of the arena.

We recommend trying both on and off, so you can conclude wether you can disable it or not. If you do keep it on, we suggest using the MLAA anti-aliasing technique. It's subtle but it's just enough for me.

Finally, we recommend lowering texture detail particle detail, and setting effect intensity to low intensity. When both high quality and high performance modes are put next to each other, you will be able to tell the difference.

But, since You move so much in this game, you won't actually be able to notice in an actual game. If you have motion blur enabled, there will be even less of a difference.

Medium Optimization

For this category, our singe biggest recommendation is disabling weather effects and motion blur. Disabling weather effects slightly increases visibility (especially in rainy maps like Beckwith Park - stormy) and motion blur is practically imposible to detect once you're over roughly 160 FPS.

While you're at it, disable ambient occlusion and lens flares. These are more minor changes so there may not be that big of an FPS increase, but then again you'll find it hard to tell the difference when they're disabled or not. Not that many maps have lens flares, from what I know. Disabling bloom can also help.

Heavy Optimization

At this point, we recommend turning everything off/to its lowest setting except for high-quality shaders and world detail. When you do this, you can get a lot more clarity from your game, while also getting a bit more FPS.

To finalize this, you can lower your world detail down to quality if you see fit. Though, we recommend keeping high quality shaders on no matter what. Especially for cars like the Skyline, it just looks much worse and doesn't justify the increased performance.
