Super Mario is coming into Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Nintendo is introducing Mario-themed items to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in honor of Mario's 35th anniversary. On February 25th, new content will be available, the developer announced today.

The update includes the signature costumes of Mario and Luigi as well as items such as Bowser flags and blocks to make the islands feel a little bit more in tune with the mustachioed plumber. A trailer released today alongside the news features an exciting look at the possibilities, from typical dungeon-themed items to costume-hanging villagers. The update will be accessible free of charge.

The update was teased by Nintendo earlier this year, but it's coming a little earlier than anticipated. To keep the game exciting, Animal Crossing continues to hold in-game activities year-round. Players earned carnival material earlier this week. Last March, the game debuted, becoming a global sensation, partially because of its coincidental timing alongside pandemic lockdowns around the world.

So as an Animal Crossing fan and Super Mario fan, let's wait and see.
