Check out ACNH January 2023 Updates & Changes - New Events, Seasonal Items, DIY Recipes and more

The first month of a brand new year is upon us, and January 2023 is another month in which you can enjoy a variety of different events in Animal Crossing New Horizons. For a lot of people, this might actually be their first month playing the game, so we're going to dig into all the new things happening on the island this month.

ACNH January 2023 Updates and Changes

1. Seasonal events (Chinese New Year, Venice Carnival, Setsubun, etc.)

There are 8 seasonal celebrations taking place this month. These include New Year's Day and New Year's Day, Seven Grass Festivals, Big Game Festivals, Chinese New Year, Lunar New Year, Setsubun, Groundhog Day, and even Venice Carnival. Many of these events started in February of this year and now start in January, making January an exceptionally busy month for stocking up on limited-time items. Every campaign mentioned here introduces at least 1 item, and all are available from the Nook Stop.

2. ACNH January DIY - Decorations

Return to your island on January 6th, whether you're in the southern or northern hemisphere, decorations will start disappearing from the trees on your island, which means there will be no more festive items and decorations to collect at this time, and you'll Have to wait until next time to get more. We always really enjoy this time of year in Animal Crossing New Horizons, it feels like this year goes by so fast, but since the holidays are so busy for people, we thought it would be great to get a little extra time to These decorations are still available to collect in January, just make sure to do so before January 6th as they will be completely gone by then and you will have to wait.

3. Seasonal recipe updates

Now, with the festive season drawing to a close, January is indeed saying goodbye to the more interesting seasonal furniture sets and the materials they're made from. Starting January 6th, the red, blue, and gold decorations will no longer generate, giving us less than a week to shake those cedar trees and collect as many decorations as you need. This also means that their corresponding DIY recipes will also no longer be available. The Festive set is definitely one of the most exciting seasonal sets with lots of unique items, and considering it's still winter for the next few weeks, you might want to try and finish it if you haven't already!

4. January Bush

There are also some changes in the bushes around your island in January, for example, for those of us in the northern hemisphere, camellias will start blooming on January 1st. For the southern hemisphere, hibiscus will start blooming on January 21, but hydrangeas will stop blooming on January 20. It's always interesting when we see the foliage change around the island, it doesn't change much because the seasons are basically the same but when we get into spring later in March and then fall in the southern hemisphere , we can expect to see more changes.

5. ACNH Critters January 2023

Something else you may want to focus on during the month of January is of course catching critters, including bugs, fish and deep sea creatures. Sadly, with it being the middle of Winter, there are no changes for the Northern Hemisphere, but for anyone playing in the Southern Hemisphere, 21 new critters are available. There's too many to list right now, but the Cicada Shell, the Sweet Fish and the Moon Jelly Fish will begin spawning this month, to name only a few.

6. January Fishing Tourney

On January 14th, we'll get our first Fishing Tournament of the year. If you haven't played one of these already then we definitely recommend that you do, you can get some Nook miles for taking part in the different ones throughout the year , unlock all kinds of exclusive prizes and even sell your fish to CJ for extra bells which is always really useful. It's also really the only time that you can see all your villagers interacting in this way. For those of us who have played so many fishing tournaments, now we guess it's just something fun to do that you don't get to see every day.

8 - ACNH January Bug-Off

For those in the southern hemisphere, there will be a bug tournament on the third Saturday of the month as well. As you can see for those of us in Winter, we get the fishing tournaments and those in summer get the bug tournaments. So definitely take some time to play with these events depending on what hemisphere you're in it's a lot of fun.

That concludes the January 2023 Update for Animal Crossing: Friends. Have a great January.
