Stephen Curry has been sidelined with an injury during the NBA playoffs, but the two-time league MVP has kept busy. On Monday, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced he has signed a development deal for TV, movies and potentially gaming and virtual-reality projects.
The unit of Sony Corp. SNE, -0.70% said Curry and his newly formed company, Unanimous Media, will have an office on its studio lot in Culver City, Calif., and the projects would focus on faith, sports and family-friendly content.
“We’re thrilled to work alongside Steph to bring his positive, affirming brand to create content in the scripted and non-scripted television landscape,” Chris Parnell, co-president Sony Pictures Television, said in a statement.
No projects have been announced, but Curry said in the statement the he hopes to use the platform to “affect the world positively” and “share inspiring content.”
His wife, Ayesha Curry, has a cooking show on Discovery Communications’ DISCA, +2.63% Food Network.
A dollar figure was not disclosed, but Sony said the multiyear media deal was the biggest ever for an athlete.
Last summer, Curry signed the richest contract in NBA history, for $201 million over five years. He also has an endorsement contract with Under Armour Inc. UAA, +3.91% running through 2024 that reportedly pays about $4 million a year.
He is one of the most popular players in the league, and has topped the list of best-selling jerseys among consumers for three years running.
